The Seattle Mariners are one of the youngest teams in Major League Baseball after joining the League in 1977 as an expansion team. Their name comes from Seattle's long history with marine pursuits. They presently play at the T-Mobile Park in the American League West Division after moving from Kingdome in 1999. Their colors were originally royal blue and gold but are currently navy blue, northwest green and metallic silver.
It is fair to say that the Mariners have not been as successful as they would have wanted. It was almost twenty years before they recorded their first Division win in 1995 when despite winning the ALDS against the Yankees, they fell to the Indians in the ALCS. The seasons 1995-2001 would be the best in their history, though as they made the Playoffs three more times, losing the Division Series in โ97, then the Championship Series in 2000 and 2001.
