The New York Mets were established in 1962 as an expansion team replacing the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants. Their name comes from the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club which played from 1880 to 1887. They presently play at Citi Field in the National League East Division having moved from the Polo Grounds (1963) and Shea Stadium in 2009. Their colors are blue, orange and white.
The Mets started very badly but in 1969 they became known as the Miracle Mets. Winning their Division they went on to beat Atlanta Braves in the Championship Series and then the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. In 1973 they reached the Finals for the second time losing out to Oakland Athletics over seven games. They recorded their second World Series win in 1986 beating the Boston Red Sox. In 2000 and 2015 they reached the Finals again, both times losing 4-1 to the New York Yankees then the Kansas City Royals.
